Outdoor Activities > Rock Climbing

Rock climbing

Our rock climbing experiences can take place on either real or artificial rock. Both experiences provide great opportunities for personal challenge and exploring group dynamics.

In order to rock climb safely, specific team routines and habits must be established and followed. The process of checking each other’s gear before climbing; completing a verbal safety contract before a climber leaves the ground; ongoing communication about needing more or less support—all of these routines require trust and pull individuals together in support of the goal (successfully and safely ascending the rock). Sharing this experience can be very powerful for groups of all kinds.

Get in the zone
Participants are introduced to all the necessary gear, techniques and relationships required to begin the process of creating physical and emotional safety. Once this process is underway, participants may begin to venture into the vertical world and their zone of learning and self-discovery.

Ordinary people doing the extraordinary
Our rock climbing programs are expert-led experiences that go beyond teaching the mechanics of ascending the rock. The individual and group benefits of sharing a rock climbing experience with Outer Edge Performance include:

  • Strengthen team relationships
  • Improve team culture
  • Identify leadership roles and qualities
  • Individual and group goal setting
  • Challenge one’s assumptions about what’s possible
  • Understand the value of a supportive team
  • Improve communication

Climbing sites
Our favorite climbing sites in Colorado include Boulder Canyon, North Table Mountain, Boulder Flatirons, Castlewood Canyon State Park, Red Rocks Canyon Open Space and The Garden of the Gods. Each area offers a vastly different setting and rock type, and requires different climbing techniques. In other states, we can customize the program based on the available natural landscape.

Reach new heights. Safely.
Safety is our first priority in all of our outdoor programs. Before anyone touches rock, our highly trained ropes course and rock climbing instructors teach participants about the gear and the most current techniques to ensure a safe and successful climb. Our climbing instructors are professionally trained to meet the technical standards set forth by the American Guide Association (AMGA), Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) and the Professional Climbing Instructors Association (PCIA). All our staff has a minimum certification in first aid and CPR, and many are experienced, certified Wilderness First Responders (WMI).
