Youth Camps > Grades 4-7 > Urban Adventure Race

Urban Adventure Race
(grades 4-7)

Adventure is the word of the week.  Participants work together to solve puzzles, complete challenges, and learn the techniques involved in navigating an adventure race course.  This introduction into the world of adventure racing and good ol’ fashion outdoor recreation has been designed specifically for students entering 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th grade.

In this week-long camp participants will engage in a progression of activities designed to enhance their mental, physical, and emotional readiness while challenging them to:

  • Step out of their comfort zone
  • Push their level of commitment and participation in a group setting
  • Test their eco-knowledge
  • Create new and meaningful personal and environmental relationships

An epic adventure
We start the week with an introduction to hiking, orienteering, and geocaching.  After that we’ll spend the day learning about water safety as we have fun splashing around on Ferril Lake.  From here, we set out to conquer the basics of road biking and bike repair as we peddle along the Cherry Creek Bike Path, while practicing Leave No Trace outdoor ethics. Finally we step it up a notch with our accomplished climbing staff, as we tackle the vertical world with a full day of rock climbing and rappelling in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

The week culminates with an action-packed day on the challenge course designed to put our EdVenture knowledge to the test.  We’ll work together to complete the course and objectives, and then spend our final afternoon reflecting on our accomplishments and basking in our individual and group glory.
